The EZ Thump 3 kV is a compact and portable cable fault location system specifically designed for fault locating shielded and unshielded low voltage power cables. It's ideally suited for all typical fault locating operations on LV cables either in industrial applications up to 3 kV, street light fault locating or fault locating of LV power circuits in the utility industry. It is the only unit on the market with a dual stage 1.5 / 3 kV capacitor.

The EZ Thump is a truly smart test set as it leads you through the entire testing process, meaning there is minimal training required to use the unit. Combined with the simple E-Tray GUI, it is perfect for operators who do not use the system on a regular basis. It provides 4 different methods of fault locating of LV cables:

4. Sheath Fault / Ground Fault

The TDR method is used to prelocate very low resistance cable faults, while the Arc Reflection Method (ARM®) is used for prelocation of high resistance/flashover faults. SW can perform instant comparison of TDR traces of multiphase/multiconductor cables.

The built-in F-OHM (Failure Ground Resistance) safety circuit detects improper grounding and protects the operator of the unit. Other safety features include automatic breakdown detection, safety key switch interlock, and interface for remote emergency off box.

Operation can be from the internal battery, from an AC source or simultaneous charging of the battery and AC operation.  The battery is conveniently located to make it easy to replace, and has a live status indication during charging.
